Clinical decision support

Clinical decision support

Clinical decision support refers to the process of providing important information to healthcare professionals (e.g., clinicians) and patients alike to help inform decision-making in order to improve healthcare outcomes and delivery. In the context of healthcare informatics, electronic clinical decision support systems (CDSS) will typically consist of a medical knowledge base (including patient information), an inference method to filter and 'learn' from the data, and a presentation component to provide relevant information at appropriate times. CDSS may be deployed at the point of care for personalized patient risk assessment, retrospectively for healthcare improvement initiatives, and as mobile alerting systems in patient monitoring.
